So in my search for a better transmission I have been mainly looking at the 700r4, but I would really love a manual. Performance is my main purpose, but gas mileage is a huge plus and the T56 seems to be in both worlds ( hard to beat 1600 rpms with 3.73s in 6th). Hawks has the t56 conversion for our cars listed at $2,250+ shipping, and will need new internals like the slave and master. I might be able to find one at the junk yard for much cheaper, but will have to take everything out of the car for the swap.

At least with a manual I can install easier than auto, and my dad can help a bit as he did manual installs on his trucks back in the day.

I should have the one piece rear seal as the engine is from 2010. So shouldn't have a problem there.

So the main question is, is it worth it to pay around $2500 for the whole conversion, plus a little more for the rebuild parts?

 

I just checked out hawks site, and you won't need to purchase the slave and master as they come with it, but purchasing new ones is a good idea anyway. I have been looking to do the swap in my car for a while now and will say that you would be able to do it cheaper than what they list. Not to mention the cost of the shipping; I do wonder how much that would add to it? I would say that the price is reasonable, but if you're on a budget it can definitely be done for cheaper finding the parts you need locally. (If you have the time for that) If you need it all now that may be your way to go.

 

Yeah, I figured I would just replace everything at once while its easily accessible if I got it. It's cheaper than anywhere else, but most everywhere else sells a rebuilt trans, not just a pulled one. Granted the cost to order everything separately would be terribly high too. I'm expecting shipping to be around $150-$300 which is average. A budget would be nice to keep too as this is already over $1000 more than it would be to do a 700R-4. I am gonna need to do some calling locally and see if anyone as it for dirt cheap because it would be a much nicer way to go. I hopefully have a few months to do this before the 200c gives out completely, it's already starting to have a hard time shifting gears properly which happened last time it took a dump. But we will see.

 

I think you should shop around, take your time. The price hawks sells it for is high and you will want new stuff too.

I was going to go that route but I realized I wanted a new clutch,flywheels,shifter,mast slave.

you can pick up a swap for under 2k, sometimes even 1k but If im putting somthing on my car I want to do it right and do it right once the fist time.

 

My thoughts exactly. I may just do the 700R-4 for now and use some of the money saved in gas to get parts bit by bit for the T56. Maybe save up for a nice whole package of rear end and re built transmission. I expect it to be a long and interesting project to get everything how I need it and might as well take my time and learn everything about it on the way.
