Re: lock up kits

All the ecm is doing is applying power to the tcc solonoid for lockup. lockup and unlock 3rd and 4th can be set to any desired mph lock or tps % unlock. Aftermarket like b&m uses a micro switch to activate tcc lockup. Others use a pressure switch. nothing to gain swapping.

Re: lock up kits

So no need for it unless for better control of lock up. What about drag racing isn't better to not have a locked. And locked for highway driving

I'm not sure how you figure its better control with a aftermarket kit, yes your tcc should be locked up during highway speeds but with light throttle can lockup at 35mph.

Re: lock up kits

Several times I've used the lockup kit from Painless Wiring; Once in a 3.08:1-geared Camaro with a very mild 350, and it wasn't lugging even at 830 RPM at 30 MPH.
The kit is overpriced, and you can replicate it at far lower cost once you've done it a few times, but it worked very well for when I was new to such things, with good instructions and every part needed was included.

Re: lock up kits

Not to jack this thread but is there a thread about wiring a switch directly to the transmission to control lockup manually? I have removed all computor control to my car with the exception of the VSS . any help would be appreciated....

Simple
Install a 4th gear switch in the trans , adjust some wiring and the lock will occur automatically everytim ethr trans goes into 4th
without you needing to think about the lockup or use a manual switch

Re: lock up kits

The Painless setup is the most complete kit and works very well. The cost is a little high, but it is complete and no furter running around involved. I have been recommending these for years now with no complaints.
