700r4 not shifting right.

When taking off it does not slip in 1st but when it goes to shift in to 2nd it will rev up high for like 3 seconds then shift and the harder you get on the gas the longer it takes but as soon as it shift you can smash the gas and it dose not slip and some times 2nd going in to 3rd will do the same thing but only when your getting on it hard. When your not romping on it it seems like it wont disengage the clutch from 1 to 2. The oil is very good looking but smells a little burnt.

Mine is doing almost this exact same thing. This morning I turned down the block just babying it in the morning this time instead of shifting to second seemd to slip completely out of gear. I let the RPM's come down and it kind of slammed into second. It then worked fine for the rest of the drive to work. Also some times when getting on it going onto the freeway it'll do the same thing but when I shift into third.

Anyone with some knowledge give me the bad news? Will a fluid change solve this or am I looking at a rebuild?

Re: 700r4 not shifting right.

Ive been having a problem with my transmission i am not sure what it could be really i ask different people the same question and i will get a different answer every time. my trans shifts from 1-2 a little rough sometimes and when it tries to go into 2-3 the rpm just climb and it seems as if i am in neutral until my speed drops to around 27-28 then i can increase speed until about 30-32 when it tries to change to third

I am not sure if it is set correctly i just actually got this car as a gift after its been sitting for a while i was told it was a new transmission for the car i will look into it later today when the sun is out and get back to you

UPDATE: i adjusted the TV cable how that link stated and it still acting as if im in N it i also jerk when it changes from P to R and N to OD sometimes its smooth theres other times where it bangs and jerks my car hard idk if the 2 problems are from the same problem and if i need a new transmission or not

Re: 700r4 not shifting right.

I tried the adjustment of the tv cable didn't solve the RPM N feeling issue at 3rd is there any other simple fixes that would also affect me like that

Re: 700r4 not shifting right.

TV cable must be tight at WOT. DO NOT use the TV cable for adjusting shifts points. The geometry must be correct also. If it is "all factory", then most likely the geometry is fine. Once you have made sure that the above is correct, then see what happens.

I am sure of myself that the TV cable it properly adjusted yet no change now it seems like i blew the 2nd gear(feels like in N as well)while driving it on back roads testing it out the last week or so

Bump I got also have same issue with mine, but only when cold(first driving) it shifts funny. I also tranny flush with nothing changed, if i drive for awhile the tranny acts normal. And yes my fluid level is good.

Re: 700r4 not shifting right.

There's a band in the 700r4 that controls the 2nd and 4th gears, the band is controlled by a servo. One of those two things is probably bad, I haven't seen a servo go before a band before, so the band probably needs to be replaced. I had the same symptoms in mine and it turned out to be a worn out band.

Might be worth it to get a rebuild

Clutches are slipping bad news boys, my 4l60e is doing this from 2nd to 3rd. It's not the servo don't worry about that. Our Autos are fried i'm getting a M6 by summer time and selling this trans for scrap.
