drivability with a high stall converter?
Just wonderingif I have a 2800 stall converter will it only engage at 2800 rpms ? And would I need a tcc lock up switch to run it below 2800 rpms?
Re: drivability with a high stall converter?
No, the stall speed is just where it will feel like the car really comes into power. If you mash the gas from a stop (without wheelspin), the RPM's will "flash" up to close to the stall speed and sort of "hang" there until the road speed catches up with the engine.
A 2800 stall will not adversely affect streetability at all. You will still be able to cruise at rpms under 2800, and converter lockup should be left alone, except for maybe tuning it to unlock sooner with more load or throttle. Below stall speed the TCC will have to hold a little more power and will end up with a little more heat, but it should only be a factor if you find yourself "leaning" on the TCC clutch, ie giving it quite a bit of throttle without the TCC unlocking when you go up a hill.
