700r4 won't shift to overdrive. Help please!

Hey everyone, I have an 87 trans am with a 700r4 trans. A few weeks ago I (very stupidly) questioned whether my torque converter was locking, so I tried the manual override in the OBD port. Of coarse it was working perfectly, but before I could utter the words "hooray it works" my dash fuse blew and the wire I used to jump the port turned boiling hot . Now I have a new check engine light (code 24) and it doesn't even try to get into overdrive. Everything else in the car is operating normally. Did I blow one of the solenoids in my tranny? Please help!!!!!

Overdrive and the TCC locking are two different things. To me it sounds like the TCC solenoid is shorted. Which is why the fuse popped and the wire was hot.

Shifting to OD is strictly a hydraulic action. You could be in OD but don't know it because the convertor is not locking. For the future, the best way to determine if your TCC is locked is to take your left foot while maintaining a steady cruising speed and hit your brake pedal just enough to actuate your brake lights. This will unlock the convertor and you should be able to feel or hear it unlocking and locking back up when you let all the way off the brake pedal.

I wish I would've known that sooner lol. Today I put the rear up on stands to hear all of the shifts (going manually through the "1 2 D O/D") and after a few tries it eventually went into O/D, so I did it a few more times and took it to the road but it still isn't shifting.. Are there any other tricks to it?

It was working for a minute before that, so does that mean I blew it out by driving too slow with it locked?

Thanks guys

You have a electrical fault in the solenoid or it's wiring;
nothing to do with when you operated the TCC
