Re: broken transmission stud for shift lever

ouch!
well, i guess you could weld the new lever on there if you have enough meat.
i'd weld a little, then quickly cool it off. IDK if theres a seal in there that could leak, thats why i'd be careful and cool it off quick.
you could always grind the weld off later if need be, or even get a replacement b&m lever.
i think the valvebody needs to come off to get that lever out?

I'm surprised a red neck wouldn't have a creative way to fix this lol , The valve body does need to be removed. Watch those check *****.

Welding will work but great way to wipe out the seal. you could allways drill and tap the shaft and install a bolt with washer.

hmm that that is a good idea.. what size bolt will be thick/strong enough to stand constant back and forth motion of transmission lever ?

Re: broken transmission stud for shift lever

All the stress is on the lever itself. I think it will be fine. Just take your time drilling the hole straight. Maybe a little blue loctite on the threads or a spring washer for good measure.mark the center with a ouch to avoid the drill bit walking first. you might want to remove the crossmember and see how much that will lower the trans.

Re: broken transmission stud for shift lever

i didn't cool it off quickly because i didn't let it get hot. i did 2-3 second of welding and let it cool down to 50 degrees before welding again.

and no leaks so far. car hasn't been driven yet, but the transmission fluid has been topped off.
