v6 transmission swap

I have a 92 camaro 5spd manual that had a severe vibration. i pulled the transmission and the bearinngs in it where toast. instead of rebuilding that obe i went on the hunt for a new one and could only find one for a 94, so i did some brain storming and bought it. after swapping speed censors, getting a 94 clutch, and turning my flywheel well the everything else just fell into place with the old one including the slave cylinder and bellhousing . so point is that it is possible to put a 93-97 3.4ltr camaro transmission in a 82-92 2.5, 2.8, or 3. ltr camaro

Re: v6 transmission swap

You have to use the 3.4 long block......Lots of us have done the 3.4 swap before. Do a search or check the stickies in the V6 forum for the 3.4 swap boogie. Everything from your 2.8/3.1 will bolt right onto the 3.4 long block. You can swap the whole 3.4, but then you have to change out the harness/ECM, all that since it doesnt use a distributor and has a different intake manifold.

He was asking that he was just giving a fyi that the t5 from the 93-97 3.4 cars will bolt In with just the proper clutch disk.

This is good to know thanks!

I was clarifying that yes the engine will fit, but there's more to it than just dropping it in and going is all.

Re: v6 transmission swap

If you are referring to the entire engine, you have to swap the ECM and harness since the other V6 engines ran MPFI batch fire while the 3.4 is SFI. The ECMs are not the same, plus the 3.4 has a cam sensor. You still have to use the 2.8/3.1 exhaust manifolds, or any other V6 3rd gen header since the 3.4 manifolds wont work in a 3rd gen.

If you are talking just the 3.4 long block, then you have to swap everything from the 2.8/3.1 on to the 3.4 long block. You have to use the 3.4 injectors for this as well.

You cant use the 3.4 intake with a distributor since there are clearance issues, and if you want to use the coil packs, then were back to the ECM swap. There is also the knock sensor, which accessories you are going to use, etc etc etc....

The basics are the same, but its in the details, a lot of which I haven't covered. I've done the swap, I can promise you it's not just "drop n drive". The long block swap is the closest to a "drop n drive" though.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think you need to re-read his original post. He's talking about swapping in the T5 from a fourth gen V6, not the engine.

Re: v6 transmission swap

And I see it........ Not sure how I missed the "transmission" part in that........ twice lol. My bad on that. Well if you were wondering about the engine..... there's some info on that hahaha. Here is where I take my own advise about it being in the details.
