Transmission Swap between '91 RS and '84 Z28?
Just wondering if a transmission out of a 91 RS is compatible with an 84 Z28? Both are automatic.
It snowed recently and I noticed a pretty decent little puddle of transmission fluid on the snow under the Z28. That transmission also bucks when I put it in gear. If I'm sitting on gravel when I put it in drive it'll throw gravel. The Z28 has the 305 in it.
The RS transmission has no issues at all.

If the Z28 bucks when it is put into gear, you may need to check your idle speed on your v8. If the idle is too high it will cause the car to buck. Also, if you put it in drive without holding the brake it could do the same thing.
As for the puddle, there were a few issues with the 700r4 that were corrected in '89 that could relate to the leaking issue. Could be the dipstick seal or the internal pump bearing. The latter will need a rebuild. I am not sure if you can use a newer 700r4 on your Z28. But if you can swap with a newer one, I would get a 700r4 built after '89.

The '91 RS ... should have a 200r4
None of these cars came with a 200-4R. NOT ONE.

Glad to see he changed it.
However he's STILL wrong; B4C has nothing to do with the issue. The lowliest 305 TBI would have a 700 that WOULD work in your car, as would a 305 TPI or 350 TPI without B4C. It's strictly a matter of 6-cyl vs V8.
Your car, since according to your signature it has a 6-cyl, has a 700 that won't fit a V8.
Wouldn't worry too much about the rest of that post since you're going to have to find a V8 trans anyway.
