I have an 88 firebird that was giving a kick or something when I drove out of my driveway. I took it down the road to a mechanic shop to tell me what it was so the mechanic said im completely missing some sort of mount that is for the track bar to the lateral that connects the tranny to the Differential. He said that he is having a difficult time finding the part, does anyone know what this part is our where I can find it. I'm new to the third gen scene so I don't really know much about my car yet, reason being that I just bought my car about a three weeks ago...

Torque arm bolts directly to the rear. It's front end bolts into a rubber bushed bracket at the trans. That is probably what's busted. Reach under your car and take a pic or 3 of the back end of the trans. And post up.

If your trans mount has failed, the torque arm could be lifting the tail of the trans and banging it into the tunnel.

Yup, that's the torque arm mount that jmd referred to.

Only place to get it, is off of another car.

If your car is a 5-speed, it'll HAVE TO come off of a 83-92 Camaro/Firebird 5-spd. Can't be an auto. Can be either V8 or 6-cyl, but MUST BE the kind of car as described.

If your car has an auto, it can be off of a 83-02 Camaro/Firebird w auto trans. Can't be off a manual or any other kind of car.

Once you have the bracket parts, you can get a new polyurethane bushing that goes in it. Only thing is though, you have to know which way the "lips" of your torque arm face; the arm looks like a "W", and the tips of the "W" might point either way. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which cars have it pointed which way. Just gotta look and see which kind you have. The rubber in whatever bracket you get might or might not be the right variety as well.

Don't drive it like that ! If the whole thing is missing that's NOT good ... IF u can't find one u will have to get a BMR transmission cross member which does away with that bracket and mounts the torque arm directly to the cross member instead of to the trani which is a good thing ..takes a lot of stress of the trans
