Looking to purchase another 10 bolt w/disk brakes

I I'm assuming all disc brake rear ends came with posi right? And if so, what is the common gear that came in them? This came out of a 82-92 Camaro, not sure what year.

Ok, well I'm definitely going to pull the cover when I go look at it, if not it's still a decent upgrade to disk rear

Went ahead and picked it up, 60 bucks. Posi with 3.23 gears and disc brakes. Not too bad I don't think.

The following may be helpful in narrowing year down a bit: Iron Delco-Moraines from 82-88, alum PBR's 89-92.

No.

The rear in my car came to me with 3.23s, PBR brakes, and .... no posi. No sign of ever having been apart. Or even having the fluid changed for that matter.

Don't EVER "assume" ANYTHING. Break the word down into its three component parts: 3 letters, 1 letter, 2 letters, each a word. (sort of) Make an {1st word} out of {2nd word} and {3rd word}.

If it has cast-iron brakes, you probably made a mistake.

The Delco-Moraines have a bad reputation on TGO, which is why many members upgrade to something newer, 89+ for example. That said, I personally never experienced any issues with them (though I have since installed PBR's). A 'fit' kit is available. Check the 10-Bolt FAQ for more info.

Would I be better off running my rear with the posi and have fun with that till it goes and sell the disc rear?

Bump, I read through the sticky, but as far as swapping drum to disc(whole rear end), is it all direct swap, including the lines and such? Looking for the combination valve as we speak but is it absolutely necessary to run one right now? I know I need it for optimum brake performance...but is it something I can put in in the future

Re: Looking to purchase another 10 bolt w/disk brakes

For what it's worth, I've had two pre-'89 disc brake rears under my car and both pairs of rear calipers were non functional. Basically worked the same as throwing the calipers off and plugging the rear lines. In my opinion, the most effective, bang for the buck upgrade is to install '98-02 rear discs or grab a later third gen rear with the PBR's. The 4th gen brake swap is so easy it's crazy. IF..... you start with a drum brake rear.

Agreed. I don't really care what kind of oil pump you have.
