Rebuilt T-5 sticking in 3rd
Anyone have any ideas why my fully rebuilt T-5 is sticking in 3rd gear? It's happened a couple of times now. Yes, the clutch was fully disengaged when I attempted to get the trans out of 3rd. This happens usually when I have come to a stop or have or am slowing down. It took both hands to get it out of 3rd yesterday.
I have new synchro rings, keys, and springs (I believe that it was the 3-4 synchro that had the broken spring when I disassembled it) along with new fork pads (nylon).

The springs are set in the synchro such that both springs go clockwise from their positioning notches when you flip the synchro over (so they're opposed to each other as in the rebuild manual). And yes, the positioning notches are indexed in the same key.
Using ATF fluid. As I always have.
I didn't have this issue with the other T-5 I rebuilt (which had a bad case that leaked so it had to be junked). But, then, I never had to rebuild the synchros...
This has only happened a handful of times. Never while the output shaft has NOT been under stress from the rear axle. I can shift it just fine with the engine off.
This is ONLY 3rd gear, BTW.

3rd made noise for years in mine, then it got stuck in 4th, then 5th, then I was able to fish pieces out of the drain hole.
IM using straight 30w oil, as suggest by the yard and old GM engineere I know.

The T-5 I mentioned above, that was the one with the bad case, had apparently had regular oil in it. It was NASTY inside, all covered in black goop. That was out of an 84. This one is from an 85 and has apparently always had ATF in it because it's as clean inside as the day it left the factory (and no, I didn't put it in a parts washer since I don't have one). There are plenty of conflicting reports of what lubricant to use in the T-5. Even GM, it seems, couldn't make up their minds. I've seen to use that special synchromesh stuff, 5W-30, ATF, and even straight 30W oil as you use. I've never not used ATF in this trans and haven't had a problem with it until after the rebuild. Well, in 3rd gear... 5th gear used to be a pain due to not having good fork pads...
