Ideal Gear Ratio for 700R4
Thinking about regearing. What would be the ideal gearing for a 700R4 for getting out of the hole at a decent speed?

Re: Ideal Gear Ratio for 700R4
3.42 is the best balance.
If you really don't use the highway ever and are mostly in it to waste tires, or maybe if you have legit 6500 shift points, 3.73.

Re: Ideal Gear Ratio for 700R4
How would 3.55 and a 28" tire be on the highway/around town?
Re: Ideal Gear Ratio for 700R4
They don't offer a 355 for 10 bolt rear Fbody. 342 works well, in fact it was a little too much for my 350 tpi. If you are Tpi auto ,then don't go past 342, or you won't really have much of a first gear

Carbed. What is the ideal tire diameter for 3.42 at the drag strip with a 700R4?

Most of rhe taxi cab cars/every day drivers..grocery getters. Stay under 4 10.
for drag racing. It all depends on the car I just got my second third member.all aluminum carrier. Set up with 4 30 gears. But then again my tires are 29 inches tall.
and I'm running a six pinon planet.

Re: Ideal Gear Ratio for 700R4
My car runs 126 in the quarter
I am spinning 6600 in third gear.(this is my shiftpoint too, I have third MAX'D out)
I have a 3.73 gear and 25.6" tires (315/35/17).
This is about 600hp at 3700lbs.
My old TPI engine that ran 14's had a 3.73 also. Heavy, not much power, and it was out of breath after girst gear. 3.42's would have been just fine. Goodluck!

If you're running a 28" tall tire, I'd definitely go with 3.73's.
If you're running a 26" tall tire 3.42's offer a nice balance.
