Will any 700r4 fit my '88 Iroc?

First things first, my transmission won't shift into 3rd. So I figure the 3-4 clutch pack is worn. So I need a functional swap so it can buy me some time to rebuild my current broken one. I found an ad for one that came from a 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood. Being a 700r4 would it bolt right in or do I have to find one from a F-Body?
Here's the ad

You need to swap over the tailshaft housing ( and your speedo gears ) to your 3rd Gen one with the torque arm mount

You may also want to swap over your old valvebody and governor so your shift characteristics will be the same. Unless this doesn't matter to you. MD8 should be on the bellhousing. Don't get the K or V marked cases. K cases are a little heavier do to reenforcement in some areas for 4x4 vehicles. The V case is for the Corvette and doesn't have the transmission mount boss required for the trans mount crossmember on the Fbody. Also, if you can get a transmission from '88 to '92, the newer the better, you should be in good shape. In '90 or '91 GM changed the name of the 700R4 to 4L60.

You can use a 4L60 as long as it was built before '93. Mid year in '93 GM changed the 4L60 to electronic shift eliminating the TV cable and changed the 4L60 to the 4L60E.

You can use a 4L60E, but you will need to also add a shift control computer that sells for around a grand.

I hope you find this info useful.

Thanks for the info! But I got a friend of a friend who manages a transmission shop to do a full rebuild with a 1 year warranty for $550 flat. All worth it to me. Thanks alot for the input though. Much appreciated.

Be sure he is rebuilding the one in your car and not dropping in just any rebuild. The car will keep it's value better with the original transmission.
