So good T5's are getting hard to find
Are there any companies that sell rebuilt WC T5's? Tired of seeing them for $500+ on craigslist with unknown miles or condition.
I'd love a T56 but, once again, I'd want a rebuild, and those aren't cheap! Don't want to spend $3k on a transmission

Search for a deal, I got a great rebuilt wc T5 for $500 but it was months of searching. Else get a cheap one and rebuild your self or pay a trans shop.

problem is its hard to even find a cheap to rebuild one anymore. I've been searching for 6 months trying to find one. no luck on craigslist, and the scrap yards rarely even have thirdgens anymore, let alone one with a t5 in it.

Since I'm looking to go to a manual in the future, maybe this winter, besides the T5, who sells a 5spd for our cars that's bolt-in without modifications and that'll support 400+. I don't think I'll see 400+ with my LO3 anytime soon, if the motor makes it that far. But I'd like something to support the power for the future. Let me know guys.

I think this is the one my friend got. I believe he just ate the core charge.

Yeah I'm interested in other bolt-ins too, but not if they're crazy money!

Yeah, this isn't a show car nor is it a race car. Just want a manual trans that isn't going to start whining or grenade on me after two weeks. Happened too many times in the past!

Do the same with a T-56, take your time and search. I paid $850 for mine and even though I found it needed a rev synchro and a selector block that goes on the shift rail I was a total of around $1100ish and I got everything.

Re: So good T5's are getting hard to find
I've seen T5s around 250-300 a few times on the local craigslist, but T56s are impossible to find around here. I'm about to start looking at S10 T5s at the local yards and just swap the parts needed to make it work in my camaro. I rebuilt mine once already, just for piece of mind when I swapped in my V8, and it wasn't hard to do.

Re: So good T5's are getting hard to find
Careful what you ask for...
They're likely all 1st design 6-cyl ones.
Even while these cars were NEW, it was tough to come up with good used DECENT T-5s. All the V8 ones with the good gear ratios were either snarfed by the junkyard employees themselves, or tore up. Doubt it's got any better since the last time I tried to buy one; 1997 or so. Had to drive 500 miles to get it, and wouldn't have had a chance except that it was somebody I knew from some other way besides hunting transmissions. Of course, that was before I finally wised up and got a clue, and stopped hallucinating that one of those weenie things had a prayer of survival in my car, and made THE CORRECT decision, to put in a T-56. Don't worry though, you'll come around to the same conclusion eventually, can't dodge the truth forever. Better not be too stubborn for too long though, sometimes it pays to be open-minded even when it hurts, even THOSE are getting tougher to find. Most of THEM have already been wrapped around tree trunks already too.
Good luck though; there's possibly 1 or 2 left out there SOMEWHERE, just gotta wait until they wreck their car and pounce on it at the right instant.

I have a rebuilt one I'd sell where you located? I have a good used one too.
