Shift cable linkage retainer?
Well, my transmission shift linkage retainer is not on my old transmission. I can't find a part number or a replacement.
Does anyone have a fix for this issue or a part number
I think there is supposed to be a clip or something on there.
Does anyone have any pictures?
Atleast if I know what it looks like I may be able to fab something up, maybe.

The stamped.clip might be in. Dorman's listings maybe auveco catalogs, maybe Clipsandfasteners, napa catalogs, and ebay is a good search tool.
Oh and "I can't" sentences as it pertains to cars manufactured by the hundreds of thousands means we already didn't really try junkyards or gm dealer.
Pro Tip: later models went to a plastic cable housing that clips into the pan bracket. You should search harder and figure out for us when this was.

Re: Shift cable linkage retainer?
I looked through the GM parts wiki, the problem is I don't know what GM called the part. There are lots of parts called "retainer" and "clip" that do not show up on the diagrams. The cable is apparently looked at as one part since I can't find part numbers for the clip or the boot that goes on the end. When I say I can't find something I mean I have spent days searching the internet and other places.
My clips on the pan bracket are fine. I need the clip or retainer that holds the end of the cable on the side of the transmission selector lever.
Where I live there are not many junkyards that have vehicles as old as these cars that are not already picked almost clean, I have checked. It took 2 weeks just to find a 700r4 out of an Fbody. Granted there were a very large number of these cars built, but that was a long time ago. My local GM dealers parts guy couldn't find the part or the number either, and that was a week ago.
So, I came here as a last resort, but I learn quick from my mistakes.
