my posi isn't doing its job
So can somebody help me with this? I went out to go do some dounghts cookies ect. It was only burning the outside tire but if I did a burnout it would work fine. I just put a posi rear end in my car last weekend 10 bolt 2.73 came out of a trans am I believe, I don't know much about these rear ends but it is a posi, anyways the thing was going great had no problems untill tonight. Did I already ruin the damn thing? I know the 10 bolts aren't very reliable but there is no noise that I notice when this happens.

Re: my posi isn't doing its job
The posi that came in those is well and widely known to be weak, unreliable, and fragile.
It's an Auburn. Garbage.
Yes you apparently already ruined it; doesn't take much. Those do poorly enough at dealing with just routine driving wear & tear, let alone deliberate abuse.

The Auburn differential is probably number 2 of the worst differentials available for these cars. It will wear out quickly if you abuse it, and it sounds like you have been abusing it. It was probably nearly worn out when you got it and you finished it off. When they wear out they can not be rebuilt. You have to take it out and replace it.

Re: my posi isn't doing its job
Thanks guys I figured as much that I killed it. So now the question is what should I use for a diff now? That won't hurt the wallet to much and can take the abuse. Any suggestions? The car has a 350 create motor and I'm guessing it has about 250-275 hp, the car has a 700r4, yes I know that is a horrible transmission. I just don't want to change the rear end out any time soon, so if I can get away with just changing the diff I'd be happy.

Re: my posi isn't doing its job
before you say for sure it's dead, did you put the additive in that actually makes the posi work? you cant just put gear oil in you have to buy a special additive for these posis too. at least thats what I've always heard. Worth looking into at least.

Correct, the additive makes it slip smoother, NOT lock up better. The additive can actually make it slip more.
If you are going to continue abusing it this way then I don't recommend any of the clutch type differentials. The Eaton Posi and Yukon Dura Grip are good clutch type differentials, but won't hold up to continuous burnouts and donuts. A Truetrac might hold up, but a Detroit Locker would be better. You probably won't like the noise and jerking from the locker and I'm sure you won't like the price, so the Truetrac is probably going to be best.
With your 2.73 gears you are not going to be able to use any of these. You will have to go to a 3.23, 3.42 or 3.73 gear to use any of the after market differentials.

Idk if the gear oil I used had the additive or not, I just know its amilie 80 90w. I had 3.23s in the rear end I took out but it was a limited slip and the bearings were gone. I want 3.73s so I was thinking of doing that anyways, I bought the car to tear up the roads but I have came to the conclusion I miss having a truck, so I'm thinking about trading it for a chevy or dodge pick up. Thanks for the input guys very helpful.

Limited slip and Posi are the same thing. Posi is Eaton's trade mark name for their clutch type limited slip differential. Eaton also has the name Truetrac for their gear type limited slip differential and Governor Lock for their locking clutch type limited slip differential. Auburn uses the name Sure Grip, Yukon uses the name Dura Grip, Dana uses Power Lock, and Ford uses Traction Lock for their limited slip differentials. There are many more , but those are the ones that come to mind right now.
