WEIRD NOISE

Hey guys, lets see if anyone has run into this before. Just changed the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and while I was at it I changed the u-joints. Everything seems to be fine except when after I reach about 30 MPH after shifting to third or fourth and maybe fifth (not sure cause I haven't driven it that fast yet) I hear a strange sound , kind of like something out of balance the only way I can explain it is you know the sound you hear sometimes when you only have one window down while your driving and the air turbulence in the car makes kind of a rumbling sound , One thing I noticed while putting the car back together was the pilot bushing I took out was extremely worn , the new one was about 1/2' inside diameter the old one was about 3/4". I was wondering also when I put the drive shaft back together I didn't take note of the yoke position in relation to the drive shaft. If it were 180* out would that make a difference? Any suggestions would be appreciated .

Re: WEIRD NOISE

Try attaching the driveshaft at the pinion yoke 180 degrees from where it is now and see if that "fixes" it.

How's the torque arm attachment and bushing?

Re: WEIRD NOISE

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about trying that tomorrow. The bushing looks fine didn't some to be warn . How would that being worn effect the car in that way?
I tried the car out yesterday afternoon after the finishing the job and I didn't here a thing. The only thing I have done since yesterday is I installed a nose bra, I wonder if it could be turbulence ??

Re: WEIRD NOISE

"update" Well it's not the nose bra! It doesn't do it idling at any RPM only when driving after 30 MPH. It sounds like it's in the rear . I will rotate the yoke 180* tomorrow after that I have know idea. any more suggestions???

I also changed the ICM, Dist cap, rotor and coil today , just thought I would mention it although I don't believe it has anything to do with my problem....

Re: WEIRD NOISE

Ok , I rotated my drivshaft yoke 180* still no change.. Has anyone ran across there pilot bushing being worn as much as I stated in my first post? What would cause it to ware that much? Could the input shaft being bent? Or maybe a worn input shaft bearing?
"PAULo" talk to me about your torque arm bushing theory....

Re: WEIRD NOISE

I had my driveshaft balanced yesterday and that fixed the vibration.
