92 RS 700R4 to Z28
I have a 700R4 from a 92 RS. I need to put it into a 92 Z28. Is there anything I need to know about this kind of swap? I took it out of my RS and know the mechanics, but I'm trying to consider unforeseeable situations that could complicate matters.
I know the throttle cable will probably be an incorrect length. Can I just use the one on the car? How easy is it to swap that out?

No "swap" to it, really.
The calibration of the 2 transmissions might be different; you might find that your supposedly "sporty" car has become more like grandma's sedan, or something; but who knows. You have no way of knowing whether either trans, let alone both, is stock.
Stab it in there, be prepared to get a Vette servo or the like to tighten it up if it turns out to be too ... luxo-barge-like.
Use the TV cable that came with the car. "Length" is all up at the TB, not at the trans end.

The trans came out of a 92 RS with a 305. Can't see how it would be terribly different. The car is out of town with a bad trans and I'm taking my trans and tools up there to do the swap and drive it back, anything other than the calibration to consider?
I'm positive they're both stock btw.

Re: 92 RS 700R4 to Z28
I swapped an '84 305/700R4 combo from a Berlinetta into my '91RS (removed the V6 and electric intank fuel pump) @10 years ago. No issues. Many upgrades since then as I have a 350 4 bolt with 380/420 hp/tq in front of the old 700R4 now, yes I'm rinning a carb and the "Powertrain Control Module"
ie computer only controls the lock up, speedo etc as I no longer have any "sensors" for the engie control.
Hope it all works out.

Re: 92 RS 700R4 to Z28
The RS tranny will almost certainly shift "softer" due to the Z28 tranny usually getting firmer shift springs. If you get the chance to open each tranny pan during the swap than the springs can get swapped,.... might also want to check/swap the governor too. ( should be the same; but might be different )
And obviously; be sure to re-use the Speedo gears from the original tranny too !! ( if needed )
Oh Ya',.... If re-using the old torque converter - and KNOW they were both good - I'd re-use the Z28 one because they most likely have a slightly higher stall speed. ( you can check the stock TC numbers on the web to figure out it's stall rating. )

Hey, thanks for the info. Got half way through, decided to just get a tow dolly thing from uhaul. Got it back to the house and going to start swapping it out. I heard that you can also use a few corvette components for the transmission. Might look into that as well. Makes sense to do it while I'm at it.
