VSS in my trans. is the wrong kind I think
Ok I have had my car 15 years and my speedometer has never worked I have even rebuilt the trans a couple of times after shattering the input drums and what not but I never put two and two together and now after looking into the problem more here is what I found (see pics) I could be wrong but I don't think 92 Camaro rs lo3 cars had this style vss correct me if I'm wrong but this has to be the problem right?

Trucks had 40tooth reluctor wheels so you probably have parts from one.
Jagsthatrun has info on output shafts and VSS that may answer for you whether a gear and thirdgen VSS will just swap to that output shaft setup.
Instead of that though, given the reliability of the reluctor setups vs the third gen speedily gear VSS, you should probably run a converter to reduce the signal before it goes to the ECM. SGI-5 is one of the know ones.

Just curious, but since your car was tbi doesn't it have a electric speedometer ?
The vss signal goes from the magnetic pickup 2k ppm to a vss buffer then to the cruise if applicable, ecm for tcc lockup iac control and the speedometer.

I would keep the 40-tooth VSS and wire in a DRAC. That VSS is a truck set up and the trucks run a DRAC box. The main benefit of this set up is the the DRAC is strap programmable.
That is, you can adjust the VSS divisor for different rear gear ratios and tire sizes. No swapping of drive and driven gears required.
Note that the DRAC is stock on many, many trucks of about '87 through '95.

So would it be better to get a drac and wire it in or a sgi-5?

Whichever one fits your budget/skill set. The SGI-5 is much easier to program, as a DRAC has soldered jumpers that need to be changed.
With either, be sure to twist the wires together that run between the VSS pickup and the buffer box (DRAC/SGI-5).

Ok Thanks I'm probably going to get the sgi-5 it will be easier to keep up with changes rather then soldering jumpers or switches, ok well my next question is do I eliminate the buffer box and use its wires to run to the sgi-5? Or can I splice in to the hot and ground of the buffer and run the sgi-5 output to the buffer?

No need for the 4-OUT buffer box. Can use the wiring for it to go to the SGI-5.
