700 to T5 conversion wiring and computer
I've been beating myself silly over whether or not I want to rebuild and upgrade the 700R4, or go with Hawks T5 swap kit. I had a Mustang with a T5 many moons ago, and that was fun to drive. I can't find a definitive answer on what goes on with the stock computer and engine light. Do I need to monkey around with it or not? If it's a simple grounding of a wire or tieing into existing ones then so be it, no biggy. I don't want to be looking around fro PROMS and ECU's. I also don't want to drive around with the Check Engine light on. So is this swap literally just dealing with the hardware and simple wiring, or are there going to be electrical gremlins ever on after?

Since my light was unplugged from the PO, I can't tell if anything from the swap affects it that way (or even if I'm throwing ANY codes!). The only thing you really have to worry about is wiring the clutch switch (the one that makes you clutch in to start it) and the reverse switch. I don't know if things are different for v8's but I'm pretty sure on mine (swapped 3.4) that the comp gets it's info from the VSS on the back of the speedometer, the 02, the MAF, TPS and coolant temp, maybe a couple of others.
To make this long story longer, all I bothered with was the clutch and reverse wiring, and went on my way. I love the t5 vs the 700, no more 3-4-3-4-3 gear jumping.

I have heard there are stalling and idle issues because of the timing setup for the auto vs the T5. I guess the auto computer gets confused however I've no idea.

Could be. Mine stalled out ALL the time with the 700. Now it only stalls if I'm halfway asleep and slip off the clutch pedal.
