Need help with a posi carrier

Hey all I been going through some of my stuff and came across a posi carrier I'm not sure what it fits or who makes it pretty sure it's a factory part but not sure the only casting numbers on it are 683-2 I was hoping it would fit in my 91 but I really don't want to do trial and error has anyone else run across this?

Re: Need help with a posi carrier

Need pictures.

It's probably an Auburn. There are a few things you need to know before putting it in your car. First you need to know what rear end it fits. It could be for just about any rear end. Next your car should have 28 spline axles. If this is for a 7.5 rear end then it could be for 26 or 28 spline axles. Then you need to know what series it is. If this is a 2 series and your car has 3 series gears then it's not going to work. You need to know what gears you have and you need to know what series this differential is. Then the most important part, if it's an Auburn it could already be worn out. You can not rebuild an Auburn, so if it's worn out and you put it in your car then you wasted your time.

Ooo, Governor Lock. Not good. Don't bother. They are all right for stock trucks with stock tires (what they were designed for), but no good for performance use.

Re: Need help with a posi carrier

That rear end was one of GM's worst ideas. The first time you spin your tires it would lock up and break apart. As BGH said, stock tires on a truck was barely useable. Any kind of performance parts/tires leads to catastrophic failure.
