Broken Speedo cable at transmission end

So I was going to replace the Speedo cable on my 88 Iroc and when unscrewing it from the trans it came off fine, so I thought. Then I saw the end of the cable and realized it broke. Any input on what to do with this? Thanks

Re: Broken Speedo cable at transmission end

I realize this is a trick question, somehow, but ....

I'm not very bright. So I'm going to go with my final answer.

Replace it? And maybe the driven gear housing too?

Need to buy a new cable. Pull the old one and the little bit that's still stuck in the speedo gear housing. It jut sits in there, should come out easy with a pair of needle nose. Check and make sure the driven gear housing is good and not cracked.

Make sure you lube the new cable before you plug it into your speedometer or vss as appropriate.

The housing looks like the threads are stripped off of it.

Looks kinda like the cable inner froze in the jacket, and it all went downhill from there.

The speedo gears themselves might even be damaged. Take a good look at em. The bolt is already out, just pop the housing out and look at em.

Re: Broken Speedo cable at transmission end

If you take off the housing cover there as Sofa said, the driven gear will pull right out with the whole assembly and you should be able to see the drive gear on the tailshaft. To get the drive gear off though you'll need to pull the tailshaft housing which means disconnecting the torque arm and dropping the drive shaft.
