T5 center console????
T5 center console????
Please forgive me if this needs to be posted in the interior thread. I just purchased a 82 Camaro that was swapped from a 4 speed to a 5 speed t5. The car is missing the center console. When I go to the junkyard to get a center console will I need to find a standard trans car? Can I get one from any third gen Camaro? I just don't know how the shifter will line up with hole. Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: T5 center console????
82-83 (84 too?) has a different console than later years and I believe that the interface to the dash is also different. As far as I know the only difference between auto and manual is the shifter plate, however an early manual shifter plate may be difficult to find.
One option may be an 82-83 Firebird console/plate, I know they are very similar but not sure on the dash interface. Another option might be a fourth gen manual console adaptation using a pod in-between the dash and console.

Re: T5 center console????
I found a 90 camaro with a t5 and the guy is going to sell me the whole thing for 100. It sucks having my heater controls and wiring just laying on the ground. But if y'all are sure it won't fit my 82 I won't do it. I have no way of seeing if it will fit before I buy it.
Re: T5 center console????
Firebirds have different consoles early/late and both are different from the Camaro. Camaro consoles from 82-92 have always been the same, with the exception of maybe the Berlinetta with digital dash.
It should be a direct swap, and $100 for a complete console with a 5spd shifter plate and glovebox cover is a steal. In the odd chance there's a minor difference I'm not aware of, you should be able to resell it or trade it for what you need.
