700r4 Shift and TC lockup timing

Hey, I have a 91 Truck with a 350 and a 700r4.
I was wondering if someone could give me some info on when the tranny shifts into the next gear, and when the Torque Converter locks up?
What is the difference between drive and overdrive, and does the TC lockup in 1 or 2?
I figured someone would be able to tell me help me since you guys do alot of racing.
Thanks
Matt

L/U timing on your year is all computer controlled and is capable of occuring in 2nd, 3rd and 4th but will most often happen between 3rd and 4th. Shift timing on the other hand is all hydraulically controlled. In the D position your Overrun Clutch pack comes on and O/D is blocked off. These clutches are what give you 'engine braking' when you decelerate.
