3.08 to 3.23

Got a 1982 Z/28 it has the stock diff in it but I had a 3.08 possi fitted a year back..
I want to go down to a 3.23;1 diff as I am changing tire height.
Will my Diff Carrier allow me to go to the 3.23;1

I think its a 26 spline 7.5 inch thing if I remember #^~*

Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: 3.08 to 3.23

That's the exact point of the break between 2 and 3 series carriers.

Stock 3.23 gears will not work. You'd have to use the "special" thick ones.

That's ALOT of maze to run in return for VERY LITTLE cheeeze... that difference in gearing is only barely perceptible. For the amount of money and work it will take, might want to consider a bit more of an improvement than that.

I'd try the new tires with the old gears, and recalibrate the speedometer, before considering such a gear swap. It'll be very difficult to notice much difference.

I agree that this is such a small change that it wouldn't be worth the trouble. You can get the special thick gears that will work with the 2 series differential that you have. If you have an Auburn or a Governor Lock then I would consider replacing it with something better at the same time as the gear change. The Auburn and Governor Lock are junk, and by changing it you can also go to a 3 series differential. I would at least go to a 3.42 and use a Eaton Posi, Yukon Dura Grip, Power Trax Grip LS or a Eaton Truetrac.
