A little help with tire size.

I have a new set of wheels that are 20x10, and I was going to get tires in a size 255 35 20. But I forgot to factor in the width, so now I'm not sure if that size tire will fit a 20x10 rim. I was originally going with it because I have some 20x8.5s with 255 tires and it's beefy enough. Can anyone chime in and let me know if they'll fit? Maybe supply some pics too. I already got a quote for a set of tires for 460, then realized this. So I looked up 275 tires and the price went up 300 dollars. It's a daily driver, not a track car , if that matters.

Re: A little help with tire size.

They may look a little skinny, as a 255 tire is pretty much 10" wide. 265 or 275 would probably look a little better.

Will the side walls on a 255 look stretched.? I looked up 265-285 and they're all super expensive. For the 275 they have a buy one get the fourth free but that's still 300 dollars more. I'm thinking if the 255s can fit proper and without problems I'll just do that temporarily until I put up enough for bigger tires. Also I haven't rolled my fenders yet, so that'll be even more money on top of a more expensive set of bigger tires.

Re: A little help with tire size.

Yes, they will look stretched. 5th gens had 20x9.5's in the rear and the recommended tire for them is 275s.

Ok, I'm going to go with 275s. Thanks for the replies.

Re: A little help with tire size.

What's the backspacing on the wheels ? Will they tuck in or at the very least be in line with the flair once the tires are mounted ?

Not what you asked about but that's a lot of money for wheels and tires that possibly will not fit within the wells.

Just something to think about.

They have a +35 mm offset... So that's like a 6.4ish backspace isn't it? And I have 1.5 inch adapters for them. I've heard some ppl say that would fit.

Re: A little help with tire size.

i think you are missing the boat alittle on the size. you want about a 26in tall tire. a 255/35/20 is 27in tall, in other words, monster truck stance.

i would do 255/30/20 (26.1in) front and 275/30/20 (26.5in).

i think you will have some hammering to do in the inner fender wells on the front.

Only thing is I don't want the side walls to stretch out. From what I'm hearing 275 is probably the smallest I can go without that. It'll be easier if I seen some pics. I googled the 255 20x10 tire combo and it looked way too stretched, kind of how ricers do their cars. I want a beefy look.

"20x9 (left) compared to the 20x10 (right) - both use the same 255/30/20 tires"

quoted from another forum. barely any stretch

That's not half bad. The pic I seen was actually 20x10.5s on 255 35s , which looked super stretched. I'll attach the pic. How much difference is a 255 35 to a 255 30? Because I have a quote for 460 for a set. And yesterday evening I got a quote for 560 for a set of 275 35s. Me being lazy on top of wanting to be able to rotate my wheels I'd rather just get a full set of the same size tires. So I guess it comes down to how bad would a 275 look in the front as opposed to how a 255 would look in the back.

Re: A little help with tire size.

255/35/20 is 27in tall
255/30/20 is 26in tall

275/30/20 is 26.5in tall

if you wanted a square set up i would do 275/30/20 all around and deal with the rubbing in the front which may not even be an issue depending on how good you are with measuring and ordering the proper spacers. i dont think this will look bad at all, i just rather do staggered on a muscle car

Alright thanks for your help man. I'm going to go with the 275s then. And I ordered some 1.5 inch spacers that should be in today. I guess I'll see how they work with the front and go from there.

I'll take a pic when I get it set up. But they're the Velocity 855s. They come in two finishes, all black with a machined ring around the lip, and black and machined where the whole lip is machined. I ordered the dominant black ones but they sent the ones with the machined lip instead, on accident. He gave me a partial refund for the mistake. I have a pic, I feel the dominant black ones would've looked alot better on my car.

The picture is kind of dark.

Re: A little help with tire size.

On a 20" x 10" wheel, you could mount a 275-25-20 tire and it would have the same diameter as OEM and would look perfect (no stretch).

Problem is that you are going to have minimal sidewall to protect the wheel and also to have anything resembling ride quality. You could use a 275-30-20, but it would be about 1" larger in diameter.

thats why i recommended the 275/30. the visual difference i think is going to be nearly non-existent unless to a guy walking around with a tape measure. and you may get a little better ride quality.
