Tko 600 transmission angle

Anyone else have an issue with the angle of the Tko 600/driveshaft angle at the transmission. Did you modify the transmission tunnel?

Re: Tko 600 transmission angle

What issues are you having?

Are you running the non-rubber-insulated 83 V8 T5 crossmember?

How high above the crossmember is the centerline of the output shaft? If it's lower than stock, you may have issues.

Re: Tko 600 transmission angle

Yea that's a problem with them, too tall.
I cut the top of the tunnel by the sifter and raised it an inch to level things up.

Re: Tko 600 transmission angle

yeah. I have already shimmed mine up but I was looking at it when I put the new driveshaft in last weekend and I know I need to address that transmission/driveshaft angle. Looks like the console will be coming out this weekend to do that.

It is, unless the car sits pretty high

I've never measured it that I can remember, at least with this specific trans, but the angle doesn't look off, if it is it's not by much.

It has a Spohn x-member that's made for the tko I believe (it was a long time ago). I only remember the dam mounting tab had to be clearanced significantly to get the bolt to go into the mount.

I should check it ... but if it is off it's been that way for 10yrs lol.

Re: Tko 600 transmission angle

I was just looking over various threads and came across this. What exactly are we discussing here??? Pinion angle makes sense, but I can't see how that would effect the trans tunnel. What exactly is the issue you guys are having?

Re: Tko 600 transmission angle

The tremec3550 or tko series transmissions have multiple shifter locations on top of the transmission which make it a very tall trans. It will hit the top of the tunnel before the tailshaft it high enough to make proper driveline angles. I'm my case it very noticeable pointed down and created issues with crossover exhaust clearances as well because of the extreme angle.

Cutting and raising the tunnel allows the trans to sit at a closer angle to stock thus creating a more ideal driveline angle. Apparently some people run these without the 1" adapter for the trans and say the angle is much better but I have no first hand experience of that.

Running without the spacer there is still issues. The only way to fix the angle is to modify the transmission tunnel above the transmission so you can obtain the proper drive line angle.

Re: Tko 600 transmission angle

Yea I cut my tunnel and am running the factory trans crossmember with no spacers to drop the rear of the trans.
