I am in need of a new 700r4 trans for my 1989 GTA.Mine is getting tired .(113,000 miles) I have a friend who spent a bunch of money on a 1985 700r4 trans in a Iroc . His car has a cable driven speedo and mine is not. He pulled it out of the camaro and put in a 5 speed. What can be done to convert it for my car? Can it be done? I would like to use it,it's got a stall speed ,shift kit and all the heavy duty stuff. Whats the answer?????

 

Just take the VSS off yours and put it on his.

It stands for vehicle speed sensor. It is what the wires for your spedometer ran to in your 89 trans.

Yep, just make sure that the drive gears inside the transmission are the same color. You'll see them when you pull the VSS or driven gear sleeve out.
