Source for correct speedo gear?
So, my transmission is out being rebuilt.
While it's out, I'd like to correct the speedo. It was originally a 3:08 geared car. It's now has 3:42 gears.
Can anyone tell me which is the correct transmission gear, and what the best source for it is?

Re: Source for correct speedo gear?
All depends on if a cable or electric speedo gear and what rear tire you are running. But with a cable speedo and stock tires 215/60/15 drive gear should be purple 14071731 and driven should be 19 3987919. I get them off ebay or amazon. I made an excel sheet a while back for a mechanical speedo

Re: Source for correct speedo gear?
Hard to find vss speedo gears. I just went thru this exercise. Most gears are for cable driven setups
The vss gear is different. Gm apparently only made 15 and 17 tooth drives and 37 and 44 tooth driven.
15/37 is for the 2.73 gear cars. 15/44 works for 3.23's i believe. I did the 2.73 to 3.23 swap and used the 44 gear with 15 tooth even tho it should be 43 to be most accurate
My guess is 44/17 is for 3.08's. Closest you may get is 44/15 for 3.23's but your speedo will be reading fast for 3.42's
Have to do more research to see if more gears exist

Re: Source for correct speedo gear?
I looked in my stash.
Not what you need, but if someone running 3.90 or 4.10 gears needs them, I have NOS 14071731 and 14090595 (7t drive and 22t steel shaft / VSS driven) GM gears.

Re: Source for correct speedo gear?
89 electric speedo for a T5 and 3.42 gears =
7 tooth red DRIVE gear PN= 14071731
20 tooth Driven gear PN = 14090593
Sleeve/Sensor for this gear is PN 25007350
* a 19 tooth DRIVEN GEAR might be the "BEST" fit for 16" wheels,... but I can't find a WHITE 19 tooth electric DRIVEN gear for a T5.
See chart below,.... note "63" is for Berlinetta and Berlinetta used the same electric speedo sensor as the 86-89 Firebirds.
