sealing T56 question
sealing T56 question
I removed the front plate of my T56 so that I could measure run-out with a quicktime bellhousing. The I removed the tail housing for the mechanical speedometer conversion. It's time to put the transmission back together. I bought the sealant. It looks like a thin film of the old sealant is still along the edge. How do I get that off? I'm assuming the front plate and transmission case have to be clean before I try to reseal. Thanks

Re: sealing T56 question
Razor blade or scraper. Wire brush.
Go thin on the bead you apply to the case before reassembly.
And while you're in there, now would be an optimal time to verify bearing endplay/preload. Assuming it was used.

Re: sealing T56 question
I'd avoid mechanical means as much as possible, and just soak the sealant with lacquer thinner for a bit. It'll come RIGHT off.
