T56 ticking noise during load...
I have a T56 transmission behind a close to standard L05 Chevy small block.
I bought the transmission used, and don't know its history.
The transmission feels a little "loose", but works great. And I have not driven other cars with the same transmission, so I really don't have much to compare against.
The ticking noise is the same in all gears.
Someone told me it might be caused by a worn out throw out bearing?
Or does this noise indicate a worn out transmission that should be overhauled?

The throwout bearing spins when the clutch is pushed in. When the clutch is engaged, the clutch locks onto the flywheel and the load is removed from the throwout bearing.
When you are stationary with the clutch pushed in and the car is in gear, do you hear the ticking? If so, it could be the throwout bearing.
When you are stationary with the clutch out, and the car is in neutral, do you hear the ticking? If so, then it is probably not the throwout bearing.
If your ticking is only when the car is moving, then it is definitely not the throwout bearing.

From what I can tell, anywhere from $1200 to $4000, depending on how much of the Dodge Viper you want to add to it. It will cost less if you can do it yourself or you have a friend who can help.
Here is the place I will likely be taking my transmission, as they have come highly recommended through several friends of mine that race T56's.

If you decide to re-build, google "t-56 re-build write up LS1tech". Should list a helpful T-56 rebuild thread.
That thread has a great how-to on re-building the T-56 and further down from the writeup there is a PDF version of a shop manual for the T-56. Excellent information to arm yourself with if you decide to re-build it yourself.
I had a bolt-on, cammed 99 Trans Am in college with a T-56 that I abused pretty regularly on the weekends. Replaced the stock clutch with a RAM unit that turned out to be defective (inner hub separated from the friction disk). I then put a low mileage Z06 clutch in and that worked very well.
Don't remember hearing ticking noises from the transmission even up to the time I sold it (had 135K when I sold it).
