Looking for cross member for 4L80E Swap
Is there anyone on here that has successfully swapped a 4L80E into a 82-92 Camaro without an LS1? I am looking for a cross member for a 4L80E, It is going behind a 5.3L Vortech Block. Any cross member i have come acrossed is designed for the LS1 Swap. I have a new Camaro body that is immaculate and i would like to not have to ruin the finish on a piece to get it to work.
Also if anyone has done something like this successfully, would you be able to share what combination is needed for the torque converter? I am not at all worried about the electronic controls on this. I know it will come up, and i already have that figured out.
Before rail roading me with fire and brimstone i did do a search and i have been looking online for the last 3 days. There is one post on here that looked promising but it never seemed to be resolved. The OP of the post created his own and another took a hammer to his bought unit.
Any help is appreciated.

The Vortec 5.3 is part of the LS engine family, and uses the same swap mounts.

Re: Looking for cross member for 4L80E Swap
I've never heard of one put in one of these cars, but in most other cars, the tunnel required considerable customization.
For a cross member, check the usual suspects... Spohn, UMI, Founders, etc. as well as the race car chassis makers. Might have to talk to them on the phone rather than looking in their catalog.
As said, the 5.3 is a member of the LSx family of engines. However AFAIK neither it nor the LS1 was ever mated to the 4L80E; only the 6.0 (another LSx motor) and up including also diesels and big blocks, in 2500 series and up trucks.

PA Racing makes a nice one, but it's $180!
The 4.8 was combined with the 4L80E in the Express 2500 vans.

I have the PA Racing piece and it fits great. I have a 4L80E behind an LQ4 with UMI motor mounts. I only had to massage the tunnel slightly in two spots. One was on the PS near the front of the tranny and the other on the DS by the electrical plugs.

I'm swapping a 4l80e into my 91 and would like to use this cross member. When you installed yours, how did you mount the torque arm?

Re: Looking for cross member for 4L80E Swap
I have the same BMR tunnel mounted torque arm, but it sits lower than i would like. Ground clearance is an issue. If i was to do it again, i would use the pa racing crossmember and just weld a torque arm mount on the back of that crossmember like others have done. Do a search and you will find pics of how they mounted the torque arm.

You can only use that crossmember if you are using an LS motor, with a SBC it doesn't fit. Hawks third gen told me it would work with my SBC and i wasted $350 bucks on it and even tried to cut it to make it fit.
