Problems with BMR t56 xmember

I picked up a BMR xmember with the torque arm mount for the t56. I can't remember exactly which way it was but it seems as if the driver side wants to go in the front and middle bolt holes and the passenger wants to go in the middle and rear holes. This seems odd to me. Also the trans mount doesn't seem to line up its about half inch to far forward. Has anyone else had issues with this piece. I haven't even been able to install it something seems very off.

Re: Problems with BMR t56 xmember

please update this as you go. I'm considering a bmr cross member and would like to see what happens.

Re: Problems with BMR t56 xmember

I got it to fit, had to start every bolt on the frame and the trans mount only a couple turns and slowly snug everything up and let it pull itself together.

I can't say I'm thrilled about it, if you bolt the xmember up tight the trans mount was about a half inch forward.

I bought this off a member it was mint looked never used, I wonder if this is why. I can't say you for sure may want to look to another company for yours. Mine will work I just don't like having to pull everything together the way I did.

mine is a 700r trans. do you think its the trans that caused the issues? I have only heard good things about bmr. I was going to get the one with coil overs.

These are older cars that should have at least had the same flimsy subframe connectors the convertibles came with. they have higher mileage and they may have seen some fender benders. It is entirely possible that your car has been hit or bent or sagging and that has caused some alignment issues. Also, GM considered body tolerances to be OK if they were +/- 1/4" so they could leave the factory and be 1/2" different then it's assembly line neighbor. Part of the learning process of these cars is to learn not to apply strict standards and measurements to these cars.

Re: Problems with BMR t56 xmember

My 2 owner car has 68k on it has never been in an accident and lived most of its life female driven (state trooper) with an lg4 under the hood, it's straight as an arrow.

I haven't been modding it in quite some time and forgot how some of these aftermarket pieces go together.

If your car is lowered you may want to loOK at a different xmember. The BMR piece sits pretty low, not sure if it's going to be an issue or not.

If you haven't had your underbody measured on an actual rack (not a simple alignment) or the PITA way of dropping plum bobs then you have no way of knowing if it is straight. My current project car also has a clean car fax report, yet when I began stripping it down I found multiple panels had been replaced.

Another possible source of play is the 6 bolts that hold the K member in place. They have slotted holes for adjustment. The transmission crossmember may fit perfect if you loosened the K member and then bolted everything together.

The Man has told you nothing but the truth . I know it's hard to hear that these cars we love so much weren't built with the exacting tolerances of a Rolls Royce , but there is no need to shoot the messenger .

I think its more of a quality control issue on the BMR piece. With the xmember snugged tight the trans mount is 1/2inch to far forward. If it was crooked, say not lining up with the notch in example to far left or right I would agree more.

A stock 700r4 xmember fits and lines up beautifully but the BMR piece is way off. Come on guys

Since the stock piece fits fine then yes in your case you may well have a mis drilled aftermarket mount . I guess the best way to look at these kinds of things is that there can be wide tolerances in the car's themselves , and sometimes even wider tolerances in the aftermarket parts , so it's a happy day indeed when things actually line up right . As to mis cast parts I was reading a thread the other day where a guy had a set of front wheel spindles that had the wheel in the wrong place , and these were from a big name aftermarket supplier .

For me , when it comes to aftermarket anything , I personally trust nothing till I see it actually bolt up to the car .
