My 1990 700R4 is leaking fluid on the right side. It is leaking from the black plastic (?) tube containing a cable going to
the carb. It leaks between the tube and the metal transmission housing. Looks like only one bolt is holding it on. I have not
tried to remove the bolt or black tube containing the cable. It looks like there is no gasket between the seating surfaces.
I am assuming there is an "O" ring on the tube as it enters the transmission housing. Can I make this a diy repair?
Any help and guidance is appreciated.

Thanks Drew. Maybe someon can tell what the "black plastic tube" is called so I can get the proper O-ring from the parts store. I assume the cable is attached to something inside the tranny and will have to be unhooked to install the new
O-ring. Hopeing one of you guys can tell me how and if this is something I can do.

Ok, now I get to contradict myself... Could have sworn it was an O-ring, but the one I have handy uses a flanged rubber seal. Could be that earlier cars have an O-ring, or that I just remembered wrong. Anyway, here are the pics...

What Drew said. That seal is referred to as a 'hat' style seal. While there it would be worth replacing the dipstick tube seal.

Thanks for the pics Drew. You were right. A hat box seal or O-ring. Either one should not be hard to find at the parts store.

Just remove the bolt where the cable goes into the trans, then pull it out and you'll see a wire hook thru the end of the cable. Slide the hook to either the left or right, and it'll unhook. Then you can just slip the seal off, slide the new one on, and reassemble.
It wouldn't hurt to disconnect the TV cable at the throttlebody end, and reset it when you're done.

It makes it a little bit easier to unbolt the cross member and pivot the engine and transmission down for better access. just dont crush your distributor cap against the firewall when you do it.
Youll be bending your wrists and arms in very odd ways in order to get the hook in the transmission back on the cable in the tv cable's housing. I usually hook it on and have a friend pull on the cable on the intake side in order to keep the hook attached to the cable when I go to put it back in the trans.
