Shifter cable problem

Car: 1991 camaro z28
Engine: 5.7
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 3.23
Shifter cable problem
The second time this cable came undone how can I clip it in because it won' budge anymore... and I know I could just replace for a b&m megashifter but I don' have the money at the moment any help would be awesome

That looks like the same Pioneer cable I just installed in my 89. Yeah, I had the same problem, it would not easily clip into the bracket there. The one down on the transmission was fine.
I just kept squeezing it together with a pair of angled slip joint pliers one side at a time until it was seated, or as seated as it was going to get before it I felt like it was going to snap.
Did you find a better solution?

do a search on here for shifter cables, there is a place in AZ i think that sells them, it is an updated design and adjustable

It's not that the cable is too short, it's that the plastic retainer there seems a hair too big to fully seat and clip into that metal bracket.
