Re: Pros and cons of differentials?

For burnout and launch the Detroit Locker is best. Clutch type differentials will slip when doing water burnouts, but the locker will not slip. It's a little noisy on the street, but if you are hard core then this won't bother you.

Clutch type differentials like the Eaton Posi and Yukon Dura Grip work well on the street and they do pretty good for limited drag racing. The clutches will slip and possibly overheat if doing a lot of burnouts while holding the brake. They can be rebuilt if you abuse them too much.

Gear type differentials like the Truetrac work well for street and road racing/auto cross, but sometimes slip when drag racing or burnouts. They usually don't wear out and they operate very smooth.

A spool is great for drag racing and drifting, but no good at all for street use. They tend to break parts, such as axles, studs and wheels when used on the street, and handling is terrible.

The Auburn and most other cone type differentials will not last long at all when doing burnouts. They wear quickly, fill the rear end with powdered metal, and in the case of the Auburn, can not be rebuilt. I don't recommend them for anything.
