700R4 only has reverse

I have a 1985 Trans Am. I recently pulled into the driveway and when I shifted into park from drive it was like I was in neutral. Further shifting revealed that the only gear I have is reverse, all others, including park, allow the car to roll freely. The shifter feels different as well. Is this a shift linkage problem or is this something internal to the transmission? Thanks.

A good place to start would be to actually look under the car. Is the shift lever moving when you move the shifter?

Re: 700R4 only has reverse

That's what I was thinking...but it isn't actually at my house, so I don't have any of my tools/jacks/etc over there, its not on flat ground and I have no e brake so I am hesitant to get under there to begin with...yadda yadda yadda, I'd like to get some idea if there is something I could deal with myself before I deal with all that mess. If the only fail points are something internal (forward sprag or something) I'll just call AAA and have it hauled off to the tranny shop.

Shift lever is moving, though it feels much different than before the failure. All positions but reverse are acting like neutral, including park.
