REplace C clip axles damaged

I have an 82 camaro 10 bolt,,Borg Warner diff with 26 spline axles.

Eaton tru Trac fuitted car goes good,,

Diff guy reported one axle slightly bent,, another one has damage from wheel bearing failure...

i need to replace both axles with another set no problem

Can i do this at home with car jacked up or does this require a hoist and special tools to remove c clips from the centre to get axles out..
and can the job be performed with relative ease or do i pay the diff guy to do it in his shop and pay him....

Re: REplace C clip axles damaged

The Borg Warner rear end does not have c clip axles. The GM 7.5 10 bolt does have c clip axles. You can replace the axles easily with a jack and jack stands. You will also need to replace the axle bearings and seals. When you remove the cross shaft to get the c clips off DO NOT TURN THE AXLES OR THE DIFFERENTIAL. If you do then the gears are going to get out of alignment and possibly fall out. Remove the c clips and put the cross shaft back in place while you are doing the other work. Then remove the shaft again when putting the c clips back on.
