700r4 shift kit with little improvement.

so i have a mid 80's 700r4. I installed a corvette servo in it and seen a decent improvement in shift, it firmed them up with no overlap that i could notice. so then i installed a B&M shift improver kit. it has 2 options, rv and street/strip. i did everything street/ strip except for locking the 1-2 and 3-4 accumulators. i set them to the rv spec with the required spacers to pre compress the springs. i was hoping for a nice firm shift at low throttle and a hard fast tire barking shift WOT. well, i ended up with a little more firmer shift from light to WOT. i did adjust the tv cable like it says. lock it pulled tight then step on the peddle to the floor a few times till it did not click anymore. fluid is at the proper level. did it cold and warm but i only drove it about 3 miles to test and stopped several times and eased on the gas to clear the vasoline out of the check ball areas before i even went WOT. each time i did this i made sure it went through all gears and into OD. any thoughts on what i should do next?

second question.
i have another 700r4 out of a 92rs with a v6. do you think i can swap them out if ever needed be? was told they have a 10" converter and my v8 has a 12".

Which size boost valves are you using here? Main boost valve? Intermediate boost valve? What year is the transmission? Blocking the 4th accumulator is ok. NEVER EVER block the 2nd accumulator under any circumstance. B&M is not the best choice to start with here. However since you have this kit.... What is the rear end gear ratio? What feed hole sizes on the separator plate are you using for 2nd? 3rd? 4th? Was the transmission working good when you installed this? Did you make any changes on the 2nd accumulator?

Thank God Dana is helping you with your shift kit questions because I haven't a clue about any of that .

But what I can 100% assure you is , that your V6 700R4 will not bolt up to your V8 engine . The bellhousing bolt patterns are not the same ......

Re: 700r4 shift kit with little improvement.

Boost valve's should be stock. i never replaced them, transmission is an 85, rear gears are the 2.73's. trans shifted fine, just had the normal 1-2 shift that always seems long. that changed with the corvette servo. i did everything for drilling out the holes in the plate to the instructions, i am not sure what holes whet to what, but i did match and verify with the instruction i was drilling out the right holes with the right drill bits they supply in the kit. i did everything tl the street strip spec excpt for the accumulators, i set them to the rv specs. only changes to the second and third accumulators was they had me add small spacer's to preload the springs and limit travel a bit. the 1-2 was a 5/8 spacer and the 3-4 was a 3/8 spacer. the kit said for street and strip to put all spacers in and remove the springs. i did not feel comfortable with doing that as there would be no cushion for surge pressure and i did not want to risk something breaking. hear is a link to the kit instructions. https://www.jegs.com/InstallationIns.../130-70239.pdf

well dang. was hoping for a backup. looks like i will have to rebuild the other one i have so i do have a backup if needed. i picked it up as a spare but took it apart and found out i have to replace almost everything in it. the 92 had a 3.23 rear with posi, thinking about swapping that out to if it will work. looks like a simple swap.

well, i have driven the car almost 150 miles. it has seem to get a little better. it shifts firm when i am light to mid throttle, but when WOT it shifts about 4k rpm and barks the brakes the tires lose for a few sec, then grabs traction and goes, 2-3 shift is nice and firm and 3-4 is firm. i am overall happy with it for now. by firm i mean you can really feel it shift fast and clean, but it dont try to snap your neck. the 1-2 at WOT though.. wow..
