Experiences with driveshafts shops, chime in please.
So I'm at the point I need a driveshaft. Got my mind set on a 3 inch steel or chrome moly with 1350 u joints. God or bad experiences with Dennys, PST, Inland empire ,etc and any others I missed or dont know about. Want to spend my money at the right place. Thanks

I just bought a 3" driveshaft from Dennys a month ago. . ChromeMoly yoke. super high speed balanced. nitrous ready. 1350 series yoke. I was told it can handle 1,500 horsepower. Talked with the tech guy (Dan I think?) on the phone a few times and went over my measurements several times as well. Was at my door in about 18 days. Great customer service as well.

Also used fort Wayne clutch and driveline to make a couple heavy duty custom long travel shafts for my j20. Tech support was very good any they know their stuff. Great looking pieces too.

I bought a used 2002 trans am 5.7 aluminum driveshaft 3 years ago to replace a bent stock steel one we paid 650 for at the dealership to get it rebuilt and ballanced and they didn't fix it
It took a whole new used drive shaft and then that fixed it
That's it for gm tech's
I do everything myself
I don't trust anyone
Esp not a dealership
A used alum shaft for 150 cdn 140k
Zero issues 3 years later

I brought the two-piece, w/ universal joint, driveshaft from my 1988 Lincoln Mark VII to "Drive Line Service Of Santa Rosa", Ca (707-528-7886), requesting they replace the joints, straighten and balance, as needed. They did this at a reasonable price.

How long ago did you use them? They are near the top of my list. Dennys replied to two of my emails and sent a third and havent heard anything back. Driveshaft shop didnt respond at all. In my opinion Mark William's seems to make some real high quality stuff. But wow they are expensive. Looked at Qa1, they only seem to make CF driveshafts. Heres where I stand. Dont have much room under the car. 3.5 is probably max diameter if that. Steel will do it in 3. Aluminum is bigger but the Mark Williams 7075 units bring that down. Carbon fiber is an option. The Pst CF is 3.75, little on the big side. QA1 is 3.25, but $$$$. Pst seems to offer the best CF deal at 699 and optional lifetime replacement warrenty. To many options.

Re: Experiences with driveshafts shops, chime in please.
nice. very nice. our cars will be kind of similar come this time next year. In november 2019 my engine is coming out for a 406 (dart shp block, dart heads, holley sniper efi) making 525 crank hp. it will also be built for a 200-250 shot of nitrous. I have a 700r4 trans from probuilt automatics (their top level strongest one) and the dennys 3" nitrous-ready driveshaft. brand new moser 12 bolt. no roll bar setup now, but it will get one in november 2019 right before the current engine comes out. car weighs 3300 now without me, so plus a 6 point roll bar and me in it will add 300 or so pounds. I am hoping for mid-low 11's on motor, and mid-low 10's with the progressive wet shot of nitrous. what kind of numbers to you expect for your setup? as I mentioned above, the Dennys driveshaft is strong. they lifetime warranty all their shafts against breakage. arrived in about 2.5 weeks from the day I placed my order. fitment is perfect. plenty of room in the trans tunnel. also, quick question for ya, since my biggest dilemma about this new engine setup is finding a set of headers that are mid length with 1 7/8 primaries. What do you use for headers on your 421 ?

I have a driveshaft loop welded in. My biggest concern is if the driveshaft breaks how much stuff is it going to take with it. I can probably fit a 3.5 inch diameter anything. Just liked the steel because 3 inch and it's a decent price from dennys. Carbon fiber is expensive.
I think you would be fine with a Stainless works type header. They fit great and their stainless to boot. When you get into the 1 7/8 and bigger you get into custom territory, which is in the thousands. If you have a shop local that can do it on the car it may be a option. Every car is different, cookie cutter headers are usually 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 so you have a bit of leeway in terms of car to car differences and fitment. Its tight now with 3 inch collector and 1 3/4 primaries. I can see it becoming really tight as you go bigger. Stuff would need to be moved around. Brake lines, smaller steering shaft etc. Another thing to consider is exhaust port height in relation to stock. When you get into the bigger motors heads the exhaust ports are higher. So it moves the header up and out that much more. I'm going to call some of these places this week. But as of right now Dennys is the best deal.
Where are you located in US btw?
