When I got off the Freeway, I tried to put the car in reverse, the shifter goes to reverse but the car stays in drive,I shut the car off & put the shifter in Park . When I start it in park ,the car starts & is in drive & goes forward immediately. There is no neutral either, The car only moves forward. Is it linkage ? I pulled the shifter housing off in the car ,it looks ok. I can only move forward.

 

I would say shifter cable either broke or came unhooked at the tranny.

 

It's sure worth making sure that when you're moving the shifter that the lever on the trans is moving into the corresponding gear. That said, if park feels like it's trying to drive forward and it's only stopped by the parking pawl, and R is drive, and N is drive, and OD/D/2/1 are all drive, you've probably done one too many neutral drops. Sometimes.... Some times, you can 'rock' the car while modulating the throttle and brakes, and break the transmission loose again... Some times after getting the trans broken loose again, it'll mostly return to normal, until the next time you do a neutral drop, or otherwise beat the **** out of the trans. But really, something in the trans is likely fragged, and the real fix is to have it rebuilt.

 

I found the answer ,I took it to a Garage and the Trans shifter bracket was detached, 2 missing bolts were installed at the transmission, and that fixed the problem. John
