Hey,
I'm almost done with my t56 swap and I have run into a slight problem. My shifter is not lined up with my console. It needs to be about 1" to the left. 1-6 are fine (actually 5+6 rub the edge)but when I go into reverse I bend the console out 1/2 " to get it in gear. Anyone have any insight on this? I dont want to have to buy a different shifter but looks like I may need to.
thanks!
Re: T56 B&M shifter hits console when I go in reverse
Yeah I thought about that (probably be my last resort.... I did loosen the motor mount through bolts and ground out the mount hole on the trans bracket and shifted the whole engine and trans over a bit.. managed to move it about 1/2" going to put the console back in and hopefully it worked!
Re: T56 B&M shifter hits console when I go in reverse
I have the Hurst shifter that uses a bolt on stick with a Hawks1" spacer to shift it to the left. You are going to have to heat and bend as recommended or cut and weld it over to the left. that would also give you a little shorter stick
Re: T56 B&M shifter hits console when I go in reverse
I was looking at the hawks shifter and wondering if I should just buy that... looks like it is centered vs off to the left with the b&m shifter...plus it's the bolt on stick so I can add spacers etc...
Re: T56 B&M shifter hits console when I go in reverse
Loosen the bellhousing bolts and twist the trans the direction you need to go. Between the bellhousing to engine, and trans to bellhousing, maybe you'll get enough tolerance to do it. Or loosen the console mounting screws and shift the trans over while you tighten the bolts.
