Swapping 8.5 ring gear into 7.5/7.625 housing
Swapping 8.5 ring gear into 7.5/7.625 housing
This might be a stupid question but I have a 1986 IROC Z that I’m swapping a 383 striker into. I want to keep the 10 bolt that’s in it but want to add some strength to it by putting an axle and spool kit with a c-clip eliminator in it but can’t find one for a 7.5/7.625 ring gear, only a 8.5 ring gear. So the stupid question is if it’s possible to put the 8.5 kit in it the diff (obviously with a 8.5 ring and pinion)

Nope.

No, that's not possible. There's places that make other rear ends that fit the 3rd gens, I think Moser makes a 12 bolt, and someone else makes a furd 9", and I'm thinking Hawks makes a furd 8.8" rear axle assembly.

The 8.5" gear won't even go into the housing, let alone bolt up to anything else that will. The hole that the cover covers is only about 8" wide.
