I have a 89 RS Convertible with a 700-R4 and I want to pull the tranny lines off at transmission so I can blow them out.
I had no trouble pulling them off radiator side with a standard line wrench. But I can't get the wrench on the other ends on tranny because they're high up on side of tranny.
I'm figuring I need some flavor of crow's foot flare/line wrench and since I need to buy one online I'm wondering if anyone has a brand & part number of one they've used for this exact purpose already.
I don't know the exact size you need, but either of these should get the job done. Why not lower the transmission a bit by loosening or even removing the 4 crossmember bolts? If you do this, at least remove the distributor cap (and possibly the distributor itself) so you don't break it when the back of the engine moves towards the firewall.
i pulled mine by lowering the transmission as much i could, after removing distributor cap. i used regular line wrenches and busted knuckles with very small turns of the wrench. was not very fun but it worked.
Pretty sure the "nut" size at the transmission is 9/16". (14mm)
NoEmissions's tool is one of the most perfect things in existence for this job. Wrenches of the same type (line wrenches, as also mentioned above) are also good to have on hand, as are open-ends, once you get the nut broken loose. Be VERY aware however, you MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST support the adapter piece the line screws into with an open-end or something, otherwise VERY BAD things will happen.
Drop the trans crossmember and you can get to them with small wrench. Or just destroy the lines and get in there with a socket. New hard lines from jegs only 40 bucks. Or fancy smancy and opt for flex braided lines.
I ended up using a crow foot & a universal with an extension. Major PITA can't get my hand in there at all to start threading it in or thread it out when it's loose and can't get a full turn on tool either.
This is the snap-on crow foot I used 1/2"
