T56 PCM?

I may have found a T56 for my LS swap 87 Trans Am. I want to make sure that I dont need to get a ECM or PCM for the Trans.. The one I got with the engine is all I need?

Thank you,

Re: T56 PCM?

The t56 doesn't need a pcm, bcm or ecm. having a vss signal sent to the ecm if your not running a carb on the ls will help with iac control.

Thank you, Yes I had the 5.0 TPI in the car. I was debating to change my gauges or not... still on the fence... thank you

Re: T56 PCM?

I did a swap on my 88 TBI Firebird and have all the stock gauges working. The only gauge that isn't accurate is the fuel gauge but that's because of the LS fuel sender. I'm going to try the V6 fuel sensor.

My initial plan was to install aftermarket gauges but that will have to wait until this virus is gone.

Re: T56 PCM?

T56 requires only 2 electrical connections at the minimum.

#1 is the VSS Speedo signal. Black and Purple wires.
#2 is the Reverse Light switch.

However, also helpful to have is a Reverse lockout wiring which will let you shift into reverse easier. However, I haven't run it ever, and it just needs some muscle to put it into reverse. I do intend to wire it up one day since I'm running a LT1 I just need to run the feed from the PCM through the harness and it will disengage the lockout under 5mph. An alternate to the wiring is to cut or replace the spring which reduces the effort needed to put it into reverse, but does open the possibility of accidentally selecting reverse when going from 4th to 5th.
