Borg Warner ring and gear wear?

Hows it going guys. I'm looking to buy a barg warner ring and pinion. Some shop is selling a 3.27 ration on ebay. He mentioned that theres pitting on the ring. Should I buy the set?

Re: Borg Warner ring and gear wear?

Well, the only way I know how a ring gear can be pitted, would be if it sat with water in the housing for a long time...not my first choice.

But, I've also used pitted ring gears in the past. Didn't have issues, after a few years just forgot about it. But understand if there's a "pit", then it's most likely deeper than the hardening of the gear...so would tend to think it would be more prone to wear in that area.

Confuse you yet?
