700r4 Torque converter

While trying to install my torque converter I am only able to get it to slide down so that the pads are level with the bell housing. It makes one loud click and then does nothing regardless of how you spin it or hold it, I have put a torque converter on a Th350 and didn’t run into any problems. Any idea what this could be, or if there are any tricks to 700r4s. Thanks.

Re: 700r4 Torque converter

AFAIK, no tricks. I believe there should be 3 clicks. Just keep rotating the converter with a little pressure pushing on it.
Unless you are absolutely sure that it is fully seated, do not proceed any further.

Re: 700r4 Torque converter

You must be able to push the transmission by hand, flush with the block, and still be able to turn the torque converter. IF NOT, you will break the pump. Try a "dead blow" hammer, and whack it easily, while spinning the torque converter. On the final click, it should go aways back into the bell housing, when seated.
