My Car (automatic) Will not reverse, park or overdrive

I finally got my Camaro back on the road today, or so I thought.

After being on the highway for a bit I made a stop. After starting the car back up, it jerked forward and had to step on the brake ( it was still in park, mind you). I tried shifting to D, it felt different and noticed it wasn’t even engaging Reverse, Neutral or Overdrive as I shifted down. Normally you’d hear those clicks, but this time nothing.

Well on the road I right away noticed the Rpms were getting very high and it wouldn’t go faster then between 20-30mpg. It was going 60-70 RPMs and it wouldn’t budge. I had no choice but to pull over into a gas station as it was getting hot under the hood and temp was going up. Even my new fans couldn’t stop it and I didn’t want to risk overcooking the engine or the transmission.

So what do you all think?

The first thing to inspect is the Gear-Selector Cable and Linkage to the Shift-Shaft on the Driver-Side of the Transmission.

The cable could have broken, or the plastic that holds the sleeve to the selector in the car may have broken

UPDATE: It was the shifter cable. It must have snapped when I pulled over. But it’s also the original one so hopefully the one from NAPA will be good.
