Hey if anyone can give me some info on this it would be appreciated. I’m swapping the gauges in my 86 camaro to some aftermarket ones. Long story short my speedo is cable driven from factory but upon crawling under the car the trans has been swapped to the later third gen trannys with the electronic vss. My question is can you simply just pull out the electronic setup and put in a cable vss? Or do you have to pull the tailshaft off and put the gears and such in there. Im not sure if the electronic set up has the gear around the output shaft or not. Thanks in advance!
Do you want to just change to a Cable driven Speedometer?
If so, Yes.
You will need to find the Speedometer Gear Calculator on this Site.
Remove the Tail-Shaft Housing, and the Gear driven VSS that you have.
Install a Speedo Gear Housing for a Cable.
Install both Gears determined from the Calculator.
One on the Tail-Shaft.
One in the Speedo gear Housing.
Get the Cable, and the Speedometer.
So I can’t use my current tailshaft housing? I have the factory cable on the car. I just wasn’t sure if i could just install the cable driven sensor in my current tailshaft housing that has the electronic vss or if i had to buy a new talfshaft housing as well.
