9in Center Member limited slip

Hello all,

can someone please tell me what limited slip I have and the oil needed. Thanks in advance.

I was thinking Detroit locker but I’m iffy on it at best.

Re: 9in Center Member limited slip

I have not seen one in a long time...

But that looks to be an Air Locker/ Pneumatic Locking Ford 9" Diff.
Not a Limited Slip Diff.

Looks like it has a internal oil pump for a external oil cooler. Used to use those on the panoz road race car. Nascar used them too.

Yes!
You are exactly correct!!!

I could not get my thumb on it...
It looked familiar, and the Air-Locker popped in my head...
But I was wrong.

Lol, Ford 9" Differentials are not permitted in my Shop (Only GM and Dana Units)...
so it has been a long time since I have seen one.

You have it 100% Correct!

Thank you!

yes, it’s a pump.

The guy I got it from said it’s a nascar unit. I had to make that hardline to connect the pump to the case so that I can use it with a cooler down the road.

should I put modifiers with the non synthetic fluid? Thanks.

Re: 9in Center Member limited slip

It's probably a Detroit locker as is apparently a stock car takeoff. It's probably also a stupid low gear, so it may not be very useful to you.

Sorry that was a Joke that no one got...

Generally If I go to a Ford style Diff, it is one of the over-sized versions (not an actual Ford 9").
I have posted this Image many times here:

Aftermarket Pinions from over-sized Ford 9" Style Gear Sets: Left = 9.5" Ring-Gear, then 10", and then 11".
I run the 11" version in my Funny-Car.

the ratio is 4.00

so do people add friction modifiers to those or do they just run them with non synthetic oil?

Re: 9in Center Member limited slip

Yes. I use posi lube & non-synthetic oil in my 1972 Buick gs which had an Eaton positraction unit. that I sold 2 months ago. Never use synthetic!

Re: 9in Center Member limited slip

Detroit Locker has no clutches. So no need for friction modifier. Synthetic or non-synthetic is up to you.
